Unfortunately, lasting relationships are rare in Hollywood. If partners are well-known film stars the public eye the whole time, it is difficult to keep a marriage stable. A show business career is very unpredictable, and makes a steady home life difficult. Now, with celebrity gossip readily available the Internet, the pressures have become more intense. However, one film-star couple, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, who met other in 1952, have survived all the difficulties.

Woodward, , confesses she found combining family life and her husband's popularity hard, particularly the smash-hit movie The Hustler opened three years after they wed. "These days people are lovely and gracious and tend to treat me and Paul elder statesmen," she said recently. "But when I was young and we had young children, it was dreadful.
