1. _______ “I told Dad when I was 14”, she says. “He said it was a hard world for a man and twice as bad for a woman. Then I left school and worked in a hairdressing salon but I hated it so I discussed it with my parents again. By then I was 18, and they realised I was serious. But my father was right. It really is a hard world for a woman. For each time a man proves himself, I have had to do it ten times.”

2. _______ “My family is everything to me, although we are very different. My sisters don´t like bullfighting, they don´t even watch it on TV, and my mother would be the happiest person in the world if I had another job. But we have a very good relationship. I´d hate to go back to an empty house at night”.

3. _______ Then she goes to the gym. In the afternoon she trains in the local bullring with her father. By nine she is home for dinner and by eleven she is in bed. She can´t remember when she had a day off. “But, anyway, my idea of a good time has never been going to the disco. Right now, if I could choose what to do, I would lie on the sofa watching videos, or reading articles about bullfights, eating pizza and crisps and drinking Coca Cola. Or I would maybe go to the beach.”

4. _______ “The bull doesn´t care what sex you are or how much you are getting paid”. Her manager, Simón Casas, told us that there was no limit to what she could do, as she had a champion mentality, courage, technique and great art.

5. _______ “A good male bullfighter goes on until he´s 40. But I won´t because it wouldn´t be possible if I had children”. And what would happen if her own daughter wanted to go into the bullring? She smiles. “Fine, fine”, she says. “No problem. I would teach her. But in the beginning I´d say the same as my father told me. If you´re not prepared to sacrifice everything else, forget it”.
